The Grade 10 Challenge Program students have been spending time learning about Garry Oak Meadows and removing invasive blackberry in Mount Tolmie Park. The students will be mapping out four different invasive plants in the Gordon Head neighbourhood next week. They plan to inform and educate people about the invasive plants in their front yards. Students have prepared information pamphlets describing the species, their impact and safe removal which will be given to those homes with invasive species.
Many thanks to Dave Lock of The Friends of Mount Tolmie for sharing his expertise as well as to parent volunteers helping out in the meadows. Funding for this project is from the Stewards of the Future program being run by Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon.
